Joseph Salvato

Director of Memory Care

Joseph has a special understanding of the art of communication. It comes from extensive early experience as a patient care tech working with Alzheimer’s and other dementia care, as well as in movement disorder. Hoping to make a difference in a community setting, Joseph joined Solera and now, as Director of Memory Care at The Preserve, he is dedicated to helping create an environment where residents can find comfort, safety, peace and feel valued.

“I find satisfaction in assisting family members to navigate this unplanned journey,” says Joseph. “They often do not know what to expect and find the changes their loved one is experiencing overwhelming. Helping them to understand the disease process is important.” Communication—particularly empathetic listening—is key. “I work hard to be respectful and empathetic when communicating with teammates, residents, and their families, seeking to understand them first.”

Joseph has 8 years of experience in senior care, and 26 years in full-time volunteer ministry. He received certifications from Pasco Hernando State College in New Port Richey and Pinellas Technical College in St. Petersburg; and attended ministerial training in North Carolina. He currently is involved in volunteer community education.

Spare time rarely includes sitting still for Joseph. He enjoys CrossFit and fitness sports, and likes to cook. Professionally, he would like to build a training program that will inspire others to raise the standard of care for people with dementia. Personally, he describes his perfect vacation as hiking to base camp at Mt. Everest.
